Further to Tinman’s heads up I was to enter the said roundabout on the junction of Jones and Weedons Ross roads NW of Rolleston Town within minutes of the trailer “rollover”.
Now it is a fact the trailer carrying the chooks did spill some of the load but to suggest there were chickens “everywhere” was a vast exaggeration? A significant number of the Trailer cages remained in situ and fully contained along with the entire load on the still upright truck.
We travelled west through the roundabout after crossing the MW overbridge on Weedons Ross and the stationary Truck with its trailer on its side were on the west to east single lane of the Roundabout.
I knew it was a chook carrier due to the distinctive Orange crates, but “chooks everywhere” err not so much.
In fact for anyone unaware of the actual load identifications would have remained totally unaware of the contents without stopping for a closer view. In fact a stationary truck and its trailer on its side could have been missed entirely as watching for traffic waiting to enter the by then closed lane as I was leaving the roundabout may well have caused the carnage to be missed completely
Typical of “If it bleeds it leads” moronic coverage, a couple of Tarps, maybe just one and it would have been contained.
One truckie having an interview that may well affect future work options will be scheduled somewhere in the near future though.
The Roundabout is a rather “Flat” structure now carrying higher traffic volumes of freight units heading for the “Inland Port to the South on Jones Road just North of Selwyn County’s Izone industrial park so it is very likely the planning done some time ago did not foresee the volumes now using it?
