It is a very popular song relating a supposed stupidity of war that resonates so long as the alternative is not permitted to be part of the story.
Very very few of those exposed to the horrors of war such as faced ANZACs at Gallipoli and survived would in a final analysis have desire to be ruled by Germans following a defeat in battle. Or more likely for a different outcome two decades later to be ruled by an administration in Tokyo with similar drivers to the Tojo war mongers
It is so in my understanding of the sudden commando raid that successfully, almost surgically, ended a clear and present rort that has followed the entirely ludable origins of “equal Pay” as a mantra.
Now there will be few who do not support two people, one female and a second a male digging a ditch should be paid the same, except that should the male be somewhat diminished in ability and can not dig the same length of ditch per hour being paid an equal amount of money does raise a serious challenge to such equality theory.
So there is widespread support that a female bus driver should be rewarded equally to a male bus driver.
Then Union masters went about claiming some ludicrous comparisons and I admit here I am being willfully over the top, they began deliberately attempting to create an equality not based in reason, say comparing a female delivering care to an end of life patient to an airline pilot delivering a package from “Temu”. The first being a job few might wish to do and the second a different job even fewer would be qualified to accomplish.
So the Commando raid was planned without fanfare and delivered comparatively surgically leaving a parade of opponents unaware even to where to actually set up their protest. As some have already suggested by the time a next electoral opportunity presents at a general election a clear majority will have no wish to partake in any reassessment.
Just one of many roadside explosives left by the departing socialist economic terrorists to cripple the coalition in similar vein to Cullens $600 million cost of repurchasing NZ railways when a true value may have been $599 million lower and largely consisting of a long narrow strip of real estate.
Equity and Fairness are laudable but when a political cabal attempts to legislate such the pitfalls become craters all too often.
