I don’t take too much notice of NZ politics, especially since other bloggers here cover it. But the following comments from ACT Party MP and Cabinet Minister Brooke van Velden are too good to miss as she responds to a Labour Party question referring to the now infamous Stuff article by “journalist” Andrea Vance
As DPF has pointed out in his post, The Silence Of The Feminists, there has not been a squeak of protest from the usual suspects about the abuse of van Velden.
Having said that I don’t know why DPF keeps doing posts like this. Is he trying to shame these people? Come on: they’re utterly shameless and they’re not going to change because this behaviour on double standards has served them so well for so long.
Rules for thee but not for me.
Right-wingers would be better advised just to keep this in their back-pockets for use the next time the Left launches some howling attack on a Rightie who has offended them.
Although if they are going to be confronted it should be along these lines:
Are you sure you wish to play by these rules now? Are you absolutely certain?
There will be no answer of course so it must be treated as a rhetorical question.
I did not vote for Ms van Velden in the last election, even though I party-voted ACT, because I thought the National guy was a good cove, though admittedly just the usual milquetoast member which that Party prefers. Barely noticeable at the best of times despite being the MP for a decade, since losing the election he’s vanished from sight altogether and I doubt we’ll see him again.
But I will likely be voting for her from now on, every day of the week and twice on Sunday, as the saying goes.
Your missing former Tamaki Electorate MP, Simon O’Connor is now closely aligned with Bob McCroskie and Family First.
Speaking of locals MPs, was glad to see my Labour local MP Greg O’Connor boot his Labour colleague Willie Jackson out of parliament today.
I was really impressed with Brooke van Velden as well.
I see now stuff is writing pieces telling us that the expression “girl math” is also a witty statement loved by all women and not at all intended to be insulting.
My main point of nausea with what has happened is the sheer hypocrisy from the left. Imagine if a journalist had called Jacinda Ardern that? There would have been pandemonium.
