Including also one about attaching a rude word to a person so that they show up in Google searches on that word (“Googlebombs”) and how Google doesn’t let that happen anymore, much to Tim Worstall’s regret, as he explains in his Substack post, Resolved: Angela Rayner Is An Idiot. It seems the Deputy PM of Britain is all hot for a new tax on savings:

One idea was reinstating the pensions lifetime allowance, which had placed a limit of just above £1 million on how much could be saved in a pension without incurring higher tax charges.

This completely ignores how it failed last time. Herewith the key passage (after the humorous story of Google and The Word):

So, why was that limit dropped? Because £1 million is a usual – and I do mean usual – NHS pension pot for a doctor in their 50s. The tax rates on greater pension contributions, plus the normal income taxes, were such that people could end up with less cash in hand for working an extra or emergency shift. Thus not only did people not put all hands on deck when necessary, doctors were starting to take ever earlier retirements. Senior doctors retiring in their late 50s is a serious drain upon the NHS. And also – obviously – a money loser for the taxman.

So it was a twofer failure, lost revenue and loss of healthcare capability.

And now the British Labour Party, desperate to haul themselves out of a long polling slump, is thinking about doing it again. As Worstall implies, “idiot” is not a strong enough word to describe Ms Rayner.
