As of tomorrow, Elon Musk will hit the 130 day limit allowed by the Special Government Employee legislation and leave the Trump administration after starting there on Jan 20. Apparently the MSM never read the Act.

You would think, after the exposure of all the lies they told about Trump’s first term, Russian collusion, Covid-19, Hunter Biden’s laptop, the coverup of Biden’s frailties, and much else, that they would stop. But it seems they can’t.

DOGE certainly found a lot of grift, but the sad thing is that with one bill passed in Congress by the GOP another $3.6 trillion was added to the current US debt of 37 trillion. Admittedly that’s over the next ten years but since wars and recessions (perhaps even a disease pandemic), are likely to happen in the timeframe you can bet future US governments will spend more. I’m still comfortable with my bet that US debt will hit $50 trillion by 2030 – unless the markets finally start hurting the government badly.

Compared to this, the $160 billion of grift that DOGE rooted out is peanuts, leading Musk to make these comments:

In a CBS interview, he called it a “massive spending bill” that balloons the deficit and “undermines the work” of DOGE. “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful,” he quipped, “but I don’t know if it can be both.”….“The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized,” he admitted to The Washington Post. “It sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in D.C.”

As usual the Babylon Bee nails it.

It’s the same story across much of the West, as we’ve discovered here in New Zealand with the latest government budget.

Still, there are members of the GOP like Senator Mike Lee who are determined to codify into legislation the cost cuts and efficiencies (especially in spending and audit processes) that DOGE identified, which was always going to be the job of Congress. DOGE itself is a temporary, cross-agency effort that will sunset on July 4, 2026.

Nevertheless, what they found in terms of NGO grift alone is going to add up over time, even more so when it’s realised that this money unlocked even greater grift in the future, and that has now come to an end, at least for the next few years. As an example, here’s a special report on just the NGO’s involved with illegal immigration:

[NEO Philanthropy] is “an intermediary that doesn’t have its own resources for grantmaking.” The group receives funding from major left-of-center donors institutions including the Atlantic Philanthropies, George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, the Gill Foundation, the Pew Trusts and the Carnegie Corporation, among others.

NEO Philanthropy and its advocacy sibling received $21 million from the Soros Network to support “advocacy on Latinx rights and empowerment,” change policy in North Carolina, register voters and fund get-out-the-vote efforts among “historically disenfranchised voters” (read: likely Democrats), and boost the Movement for Black Lives. The Four Freedoms Fund is a donor collaborative of NEO Philanthropy. The Fund primarily focuses on pushing left-of-center immigration policies, including “legalization of undocumented immigrants” through a path to citizenship and comprehensive immigration reform legislation. The Fund is critical of what it calls “anti-immigrant ordinances” created by conservative legislators, including deportations by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).

All this private sector stuff (but also with money from the Federal government) was the other side of the coin from the Biden Administration’s deliberate handicapping of government agencies to enable the flood of millions of illegal immigrants into the USA in the last four years.
