The Herald has an article on supposed speeding on the Napier Taupo Road with average ticket issued at 115kph over the long weekend..

mrspdm travelled Hastings/Taupo and return with our 26 year old grand daughter on Sunday and said that traffic flowed smoothly and safely both ways after the 80kph area was removed either Thursday or Friday of last week. Granddaughter commented from time to time about excessive braking by some of the cars they were following.

They put it down to two things:

  1. Lack of signage. The 80kph signs had been removed but there were very few 100kph signs in evidence.
  2. Because the change was so recent plus the lack of signage some drivers were not sure what the speed limit was.

If any readers travelled the Napier/Taupo road over the weekend what did you think of the change back to 100kph and the standard of driving.

Last time I drove the road was under 80kph limits and traffic flowed smoothly at and safely at 90/100 kph for the most part.
