The problem with California is that their political leadership is so captured by ideology that they literally think shutting down Christian pre-schools is more moral than arresting rioters who throw bricks at cops

It’s always nice when a politician enables you to re-use an old cartoon. In the one above Governor Hair Gel was facing a recall as his state of California got consumed by wildfires, and this was four years before the catastrophe of the LA fires.
Well, LA is burning again, and this time nature has nothing to do with it. It’s all human, and it’s all on the Democrat Party.
Naturally they’re trying to blame Trump because all this goes back to the immigration raids by ICE as they focus on illegal aliens who are also stone-cold criminals in other areas of crime. It worked for the Democrats in 2017, but after four years of Biden’s open borders it’s not working any more.
But even this is still not penetrating the bubble of communists like LA Mayor Karen Bass (and yes, she is an actual communist – but one of the modern ones who love money).
Hence the Babylon Bee’s take.
The latest wheeze from Newsom is to scream about Trump’s “unlawful” nationalisation of the California National Guard and demand that control of it be returned to him. He should probably read some history, where he’ll find that President’s Eisenhower, Kennedy and LBJ sent in the National Guard to Southern States when the Democrat Party that controlled them refused to enforce Federal laws. Oh, and this President:
In fact we’re even seeing comments about “States Rights” from the Democrat Party. Historian (and Californian) Victor Hanson has some reminders for them on that front as well:
Another thing that’s not working for the Democrat Party any longer is their shield of the MSM, which has been declining (collapsing?) for years but has now been broken beyond repair by their cover up of “President” Biden’s senility. And so…
Still, even with all the incompetence involved with the LA wildfires and the re-construction and the state of California in general, I still think the voters will not turn against the Democrat Party in the state. Not even after this….
Or this.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell blew up the Democratic narrative about “peaceful protests,” having things in hand, and not needing the National Guard when he said at a press conference on Sunday night that things had gotten out of control and they were being “overwhelmed.”
I guess we’re not going to see any more official notices from the LAPD as to how they’ve got this under control and don’t need the National Guard.
I ws curious about the marines being deployed there, I always thought it was probably a no/no. But I guess it’s because Federal offices (and employees) are under threat that Federal troops can be deployed.
While I have little time for the Governor of California, I do wonder what the Governors of the other States think, watching the Federal government deploying troops against their wishes.
When I wrote in the post of past Presidents I didn’t include Bush 41 back in 1992. I remember watching this live on TV in Chicago…
I’ll update the post.
Oh interesting. You learn something new every day.
I’m still not convinced that it’s a great idea (the Federal government deploying troops), but that’s a different issue – not a “Trump” one
I’m not convinced it’s a great idea either but the Antifa types would love this to explode across the entire city and unlike 2020 I don’t think that’s going to happen this time.
Despite their political masters, the LAPD are likely to now go all in on these thugs, for whom “The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.”
Tom this is interesting because it mentions the words “without the consent of the Governor”. That does put it in a different light from what Bush did where the Governor requested federal assistance and he (Bush) then acted

That’s true but Section 12406, while talking about invasion and rebellion as justfications for the President taking over a State’s National Guard also has a third provision:
This is yet another example of Trump learning from his 1st term, where he sat around in 2020 waiting for the call from the Governors of Minnesota and such, where the Summer Of Love was cranking up, because he just assumed those assholes wouldn’t want Antifa/BLM burning shit down in places like Minneapolis and Portland. After all, that’s where their own voters lived.
Instead it became clear that those Governors and Mayors cared more about beating him, and if their own voters lives and properties had to be sacrificed to boost the narrative of “chaos”, so be it.
This time he’s getting in first. Anybody wth $100 and a lawyer can sue, but I wouldn’t bet on even forum shopping for judges winning it for Newsom and company on this occasion.
We’ll see what happens when ICE hits Chicago and such, as it will.

BTW, that article makes reference to one of the same things I did in the post, with LBJ and Alabama:
I was talking to a friend in the USA (he’s a Libertarian that doesn’t particularly side with the Republicans or Democrats) and I thought his take was interesting.
We were talking about what happened in 1992 and he said:
“1992 riots were massive and I’m not sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if marshal law had been declared.
This is nothing of the sort.
It’s what has become typical. Anytime a leftist cause generates protest then come the anarchist and professional rioters. It occupies a few blocks that the media can focus on and blow out of proportion while the rest of the city goes about business as normal.”
So my response was:
Sure, but doesn’t that make sending in marines even more questionable?
I agree 1992 wasn’t at all like this
I would have thought that the national guard alone would be enough (and more appropriate)
And his answer made sense, like you’ve said, when you bring the politics into it:
Yes and no, because of the state politics in California in open defiance of federal law, their officials can’t be trusted with the responsibility of handling the situation. The use of active military was more politics than necessity. A strong showing of force, ie we’re not backing down from enforcing federal immigration law, because you’re backing chaos.”
Jesus, his party are going to hate his guts even more after this…
