No not the words of a renowned leader civilian or military, They were the words that erupted from dear old Ned Low who drove the K Bedford truck converted to a school bus in Robsons Garage Waiau by Fred Blick and Ned with three seats lengthwise and not a seat belt in sight, with the assorted Children aged from five to thirteen on the Lyndon Bus bound for Waiau School.
Poor old Ned had serious onset COPD from likely years of smoking “Park Drive” Rollies and I guess it was reasonable that a bunch of twenty plus unruly primary school children would be quite challenging. So it was little wonder if somewhat stunning to have the bus hauled to a halt mid shingle road for one of Ned’s outbursts.
The memory was triggered bigly as the Middle East erupted today with Israel finally attempting to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions to finally extinguish the Democratic State of Israel after decades of state sponsored unrest and all the armchair Admirals, Generals and Air Marshalls came up with widely differing opinions over the rather Desperation driven military move by the IDF.
Maybe I had an inkling of what drove Ned to his last straw some seventy years ago.
It was the same as regards the tragic end for the Dream Liner on takeoff for Gatwick from Ahmedabad where it is disclosed the Flight and Cockpit recorders have been recovered undamaged so what actually went wrong will soon be available for all.
I know instinctively the response for dear old Ned will resonate but the white noise will not be diminished.
