In the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, renaming it “X”, firing 80% of the staff and dumping almost all of the censorship, one of the reactions of the Left was to create their own Twitter, a platform called BlueSky where they could huddle away safely from all those “Far Right”, “Alt Right” and other Nazis who were being welcomed back to Twitter.

The following was thus entirely predictable as US Vice President J.D.Vance joined BlueSky and chose for his first post to celebrate the recent Supreme Court decision that upheld Tennessee’s law barring “gender-affirming” treatments on minors. Here’s the post.

One political commentator on X said:

I give it about 25 minutes before BlueCry bans the sitting VP for “hate speech

And then this happened…. and actually it was 11 minutes.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It was also entirely predictable that such a community would rapidly turn into a cesspit of toxic bile that would start hating on itself, and recently there have been people once fully supportive of BlueSky who have acknowledged this – leading to more hate for them, ‘Ruder and More Hateful’: Mark Cuban Bewails Left-Wing Alternative to X:

Even if you agree with 95 percent of someone’s views on an issue, if you point out just one area that’s open to interpretation, people will label you a fascist or worse.

The replies on here may not be as racist as Twitter, but they damn sure are hateful. Talk AI: FU, AI sucks go away. Talk Business: Go away. Talk Healthcare: Crickets. Engagement went from great convos on many topics, to agree with me or you are a nazi fascist. We are forcing posts to X.

No! Really? This is my shocked face – to be quickly replaced by my laughing face as I read how Cuban started off in late 2024 as the horror of Trump’s win spread through his world:

Cuban created a Bluesky account in November 2024, just days after the election. He first wrote: “Hello Less Hateful World.” Oops. Little did Cubes know what was to come.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The following is therefore also entirely predictable:

Engagement on Bluesky appears to have peaked in mid-November. It’s now down about 50 percent, and the decline shows no sign of leveling out.

You can’t blame them for trying, I suppose. But wait, actually, I can. Because even if this works, moving progressives off X into Bluesky’s beautiful blue bubble isn’t a great idea for the movement. … It’s likely to sap already-waning progressive influence and make the movement itself less politically effective.

It’s not surprising that progressives want to return to the good old days. But it’s not working, and I’m skeptical it ever will.

That’s columnist Megan McArdle writing in one of the dying MSM institutions, the Washington Post, and you’ll note that she’s not concerned about “progressives” actually being nasty, toxic, hateful pieces of shit, but that such being revealed to the world will hurt her their cause.
