Following on from my introductory piece yesterday, I need to add that it is not just New Zealand politics and politicians that grind my gears, it is also the Doomsayers who take great pleasure in scaring the bejeezus out of school children and adults with their dire warnings that we are all going to die (well that part is true) due to global warming caused by humans pumping CO2 into the atmosphere at a prodigious rate!

We’ve all seen the banner headlines, The Earth has entered “uncharted territory” and life on earth is “under siege.” Even UN Secretary General António Guterres stoked the fear machine by claiming in 2023 “the era of global warming has ended” and “the era of global boiling has arrived.” FFS!

Statements designed to create fear because fear begets compliance?

We are told by preeminent scientists the world is in a huge mess, we are destroying our planet, climate change is a crisis and there is an “overwhelming scientific consensus” telling us so!

These prophets of doom seem to thrive on questionable data and completely fail to understand that correlation is not causation. “The local rooster crows every morning at sunrise, but that does not mean the rooster caused the sun to rise.”

We even have the 20 year old Swedish woman, Greta Thunberg arguing our Government’s Climate Emergency declaration is merely virtue signalling.

Even Chris Luxon couldn’t hold back from doing his lemming imitation!

Do you remember when back in February ’23 when National MP Maureen Pugh was pulled into line by the party leadership after telling reporters she “has yet to see evidence humans have contributed to climate change.“

Leader Christopher Luxon offered to give the MP plenty of reading material laying out the science and the evidence. Tui advert Chris?

Ever heard of Prof. Penny Sackett? Well Penny Sackett was the director of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (a part of ANU) for five years. From  2008 – 2011 she was appointed Chief Scientist of Australia.

Back in 2009 Prof Penny Sackett was urging all Australians to reduce their carbon footprint.

The professor said even if all the world stopped producing carbon dioxide immediately, temperature increases of 1.3C were unavoidable.

I find it hard to believe an “eminent” scientist would utter the words “…stopped producing carbon dioxide immediately.” Doesn’t that give the lie to her and all the other “eminent” climate change alarmist scientists?

They say a much faster phase-out of oil, coal, and other fossil fuels is necessary. Failure could cause water and food shortages, plus extreme heat, for a third to half of the world’s population.

When asked to explain data that showed the earth had been cooling in recent years, Prof. Sackett acknowledged air temperatures had levelled during the La Nina weather pattern, now nearing an end.”

Professor Sackett has also warned the world only has six years to decrease its emissions to avoid damaging climate change.

But hold on, isn’t CO2 essential for life on earth? Wasn’t that what we learned in basic science at school. Now we are being told the world is ending next week unless we eliminate CO2???

CO2 is a greenhouse gas that, yes, warms the Earth, but without it, the Earth would be too cold to live on.

The next question we must ask is – “What will happen if we overcompensate and all the CO2 in the atmosphere is removed?”

Easy. The planet gets colder, all the plants die, there is no more oxygen production, so very shortly all the animals (including humans) die!!!

The point I am trying to make is; That without us being able to access a balanced, impartial and nonpartisan views on climate change how will we ever be able to make informed and reasoned decisions.

For me the big question isn’t “Is climate change real?”

What the world needs from politicians and scientists is honesty and truthfulness around the question, “HOW MUCH OF CLIMATE CHANGE IS MAN MADE?”
