L: John Brennan. R: James Comey.

About fucking time.

As I speculated the other day in the post This is why Trust in Institutions is Fading, the recent declassification of CIA materials related to the Steele Dossier – created by a retired British Intelligence Agent for Hillary Clinton to use against Trump in the 2016 election – likely would not lead to any criminal consequences because the statute of limitations likely would have passed, but that if these two scumbags were hauled before Congress they might lie again and be prosecutable for that.

I’d forgotten that Brennan recently had:

Brennan testified to the House Judiciary Committee in May 2023, however, that he did not believe the dossier should be included in that intelligence product.

The latest revelations show that to have been a clear lie. CIA emails show that Brennan pushed for the dossier to be included.

As to Comey, it’s likely about his recent, stupid wish fulfillment to “86 47” (written in seashells no less), followed by his pathetic claims, when he was called out, that he had no idea it meant “Kill Trump”.

But Comey and his FBI were also tied into the Steele Dossier because it was the document they’d used to justify spying on Trump in 2016, which led to the two-year investigation by Team Mueller into “Russian Collusion”. Thus they were thrilled at its inclusion in the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) because it gave the imprint of truth from another US Intelligence Agency. All very cosy and convenient.

Only one FBI agent has ever been prosecuted and convicted for anything to do with the Russian Collusion affair and that was some low-level lawyer who perjured himself before the FISA court to get the wiretaps on Trump’s campaign (part of operations Crossfire Hurricane and Crossfire Razor) . His punishment was community service and being suspended from the Bar for a year.

In the past lying to Congress, committing perjury and being assessed to be in contempt of Congress, was regarded as no big deal; Barack Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder (self-described as “his wingman”) laughed off such charges after refusing to turn over material for an investigation Congress was conducting.

But since Congress got two Trump advisors hauled into court and convicted those old “norms” no longer apply.

Remember, according to the Democrats, “elections have consequences,” and “no one is above the law”.
