Yeah, that’s Police Constable Abby Sturgin from Waitemata, a 28-year-old born and bred West Aucklander of Kiwi-Laos heritage who has been crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2025.
I want them to think – wow, that’s so cool. She’s a police officer and she can wear 6-inch heels and a really beautiful gown.
If, by some strange chance, she arrests me, I can absolutely guarantee you that I will be thinking about all that during the procedure. I may even be suggesting the use of 6-inch heels (and isn’t it lovely that a Kiwi-Laos native is using those terms of measurement in 2025)
She will represent New Zealand at the 74th Miss Universe competition, which will be held in Thailand in November.
When I see photo’s like that these days, I first thing I ask myself is ‘Is it the real thing, or something else?.
A diversity hire.
I am not so sure about that Kevn.
I read a bit about her a couple of weeks ago and she seems to be well regarded as being able to pull her weight on the job by her Police peers.
Well that’s nice, doing the job then.
