This link takes you to a profile of Tina Porou and her background – google her because there are a number of references to her and my impression is that she is a Maori Environmental activist – do you agree?

BTW she is the founder of `poipoia’ (a kaupapa Maori Company committed to providing environmental services to iwi, hapu and the public and private sector) and google also shows more on that organisation.
An Expert – in her own mind, Iwi, Hapu and perhaps even her circle of peers but, she did not convince me that she was neutral as far as Maori interests in water is concerned.
Ms Porou even says and I quote – `the water owns itself and water has a right to itself.’
That was in response to a question from Duncan Garner as to who owns the water. Unforunately he did not follow up on Ngai Tahu’s attempt through the courts to take over the ownership of all South Island water – a glaring omission to my mind.
The video cuts off before she answers this question from Duncan Garner:
`Should Farmers be concerned that Iwi will block their consents for water?’
I wonder what her answer would be because I think that is what we are looking at in the short to medium term if Te Mana O Te Wai is not removed from the statutes.
Video is just under 13 minutes.
