From Matua Kahurangi.
I (pdm1946) am in Winston’s camp on this one and it is not often I agree with him.
New Zealand First has introduced a Member’s Bill that proposes to make it crystal clear – the official name of our country is New Zealand.
The New Zealand (Name of State) Bill, introduced to Parliament today, asserts that only the people of New Zealand, through their elected representatives, have the right to determine the official name of the nation. Not unelected bureaucrats. Not government departments. Not ideologically motivated public officials.
Now Winston get on with cleaning up the other Maorification things you and the rest of the Coalition said you would.

Totally agree with you PDM. This coalition government is sitting on its hands regarding the ever growing control the maori elite are exerting over our governance.
Luxon, as he has now made it clear, has absolutely zero intention of halting the push for Maori Sovereignty. It will be very interesting to see his personal stance on the NZF bill.
Refuse to support the bill, as he did for the Treaty Principles, and will all the other National MP’s fall, compliantly and docilely in behind him?
Surely some of them can look to late 2026 and see some “WRIT LARGE” lettering on a wall?
Peekay my guess is National will not support it but, ACT will – if it is drawn of course.
re your last sentence our two local lady Electorate MP’s Katie Nimon and Catherine Wedd will be at risk. I wonder if they realise that.
