A few weeks ago in a post, Die NPR, Die, I wrote about how the Trump Administration had finally fulfilled the long-held desires of many American Righties by stripping over a billion dollars from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), basically defunding them and possibly ending its two most prominent arms, National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS – TV). This led to much screaming.

However, I figured they’d probably survive thanks to their fanatical supporters stepping up as donors and certainly that seemed about to happen, although I did note that raising funds “might be more of a struggle than they think”, since NPR’s weekly audience has dropped from an estimated 60 million in 2020 to about 42 million today.

Hell, even one of their own, facing the inevitable, echoed what RW critics have said about them for years

Well, it turns out that they couldn’t find a better way forward, that even begging by their CEO didn’t work, that they were the usual bunch of Lefties who loved using Other Peoples’ Money, refused to pony up their own, and so…

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) said Friday it will begin “an orderly wind-down of its operations” after seeing its budget cut through GOP-led legislation.

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” CPB President Patricia Harrison said in a statement.

The propaganda writing was on the wall just a few days ago when news came that NPR’s top editor had tendered her resignation:

Edith Chapin, who serves as editor-in-chief and acting chief content officer at National Public Radio, announced her departure on Tuesday. Chapin told an NPR reporter she quit rather than being fired and that she was not leaving due to the funding cuts.

Maher also addressed statistics that showed the broadcaster having 87 registered Democrats on-staff this time last year and not a single Republican. The disparity, Maher conceded, was ‘concerning – if true.’ She insisted NPR does not track such affiliations.

Pfft. My bet is that this woman was hired as a fig-leaf concession. NPR had been exposed as hopelessly leftwing by Uri Berliner (referenced here), who they then suspended and forced out, and they needed to placate Congress by pretending they cared about balance, despite the hideous statements and history of their CEO. But the moment Congress cancelled their funding, they decided they were all done with this very weak effort at pretending, so they had no further use of their “fairness and balance” fig-leaf editor.

Denial to the last drop of The Tears of Unfathomable Sadness.

If you think that’s mean, the following piece of satire from several years ago is only slightly exaggerated.

I said above that NPR and PBS might be pulled under as well, but Powerline states “that NPR and PBS will soldier on as independent entities.”

Also this as yet another lesson to Right Wing Squishies everywhere, including those still defending RNZ and TVNZ:

Damn, I’m going to have to change the title of my tag, Die MSM, Die and substitute “Dead” for “Die” from here on.
