Firstly on Facebook.
Jack Tame has decided to write an ‘opinion’ piece about New Zealand First’s bill seeking to enshrine ‘New Zealand’ as the official geographic name for our country in legislation.
Here is the link: Jack Tame: New Zealand v Aotearoa – what does this bill achieve?
Here are some interesting quotes where he states his views quite strongly:
• “I’ve a real distaste for performative politics that either drum up angst about a problem that doesn’t exist or do something symbolic at the expense of real action.”
• “Here’s my view on the name of our country: call it what you want.”
• “If New Zealand First was trying to enshrine the name ‘Aotearoa’ in law, I’d have the same response.”
But that isn’t what you really think is it, Jack?
The problem, Jack, is that you also decided to write an ‘opinion’ piece about the name of our country in 2020 – where you clearly and strongly stated the exact opposite.
Your hypocritical, contradictory, political bent is highlighted in neons.
Here is the link: Jack Tame: Should we change New Zealand’s name?
Here are some interesting quotes from that article:
• “‘New Zealand.’…if you actually stop and think about it, it’s a silly name.”
• “By contrast…what does Aotearoa mean? …The Land of the Long White Cloud. As per some Māori mythology…that’s a way cooler explanation than Zeeland.”
• “There is an easy solution to this, of course. A name that reflects our history. A name that succinctly illustrates a relationship between the indigenous and European cultures that have developed the country into what it is today.”
• “That name is simple. Aotearoa New Zealand.”
So you do think the name of our country is a real problem. You do want to change it. You do think that ‘New Zealand’ is a silly name. You do want our country to be called “Aotearoa”. And you would support a bill that would change it – but only if it suited you and your blatantly partisan ways.
Your problem is not that we want to put our country’s official name in legislation, your problem is that it’s not “Aotearoa”.
Your biased contradictions and hypocrisy are palpable.
I’m not sure what we all should be more worried about Jack, the fact that you might have forgotten what your ‘strong values-based opinion’ was just five years ago, or that you know exactly what you wrote in 2020, but decided to write that crap yesterday because it suits your woke leftwing narrative.
The biggest problem you and your ilk have is that the vast majority of New Zealanders want “New Zealand” to be our official name, and they are sick of people like you trying to shove your politically motivated cultural indoctrination down our throats.
PS
The Māori Party presented a petition in 2021 to change our name to “Aotearoa”. Where was your blistering opinion piece about them wasting their time on ‘performative politics’ on a ‘non-existent problem’?
Then when interviewed by Sean Plunket on The Platform
I am no great fan of Peters but I do like it when he steps up and deals to the smug hypocrites of the media – people like Jack Tame.
I would not say the Plunket interview is his best performance either but he manages to get his messgae across.
