Labour’s Greg O’Connor wins quote of the day and it’s not even lunchtime .
National and Labour MPs are in their respective caucus meetings, but spoke with reporters as they made their way in. Labour’s Greg O’Connor, who is the MP for Ōhāriu, was asked whether he would stand in 2026 given his electorate is one which will be redrawn, altering the political landscape, and renamed Wellington North in 2026.
O’Connor first said he was “standing firmly” adding he has had injury. He was pressed then which way he is swaying, and gave an interesting response which drew questions to a close.
“I’m quite happy to be standing firmly erect at the moment.
So I’ll leave it at that.”
Greg is my MP. I don’t vote Labour but he’s a good guy and actually works in the electorate (unlike Peter Dunne before him). If Labour hadn’t sidelined him and others like him they might have achieved something.
And that does indeed sound like something he’d say.
I think Greg O’Connor would have been a very good Speaker.
He is a class above any of the current lot, including Big Gerry whom I misjudged. I thought he would be very good and at times he is but, most of the time he is poor and maybe even getting worse.
Good to see him kick Chloe Swarbrick out today though – a bit more of that might restore some confidence in him.
Greg was too “old school Labour” for the “university Labour” of Hipkins, Ardern, Robertson.
I mean, you have a party that is supposedly for the working class people (ho ho ho), you get someone who got themselves elected into a tough seat (and who holds off Nicola Willis in the last election), someone who was a cop for over 40 years, someone who was the head of the police union for 20 years, and you completely sideline him.
It shows you the sheer arrogant stupidity of the champagne socialists that run the Labour Party. And long may they retain that stupidity if it keeps them from the levers of power, but seeing that Chippie is rising in the popularity stakes his odds of being the next PM rise each day.
At which point I’ll start drinking heavily, because if you think that Luxon is bad …
