The North Face: an outstanding company

I don’t think I own any North Face gear, or ever have, though I do think their line of outdoor clothing is stylish.

Apparently the company likes stylish things across the board, especially those which let its customers know that it cares about more than just profits, but the Earth itself:

Innovex is based in Houston and has nearly 100 workers in the Permian Basin.

Each year, the company gets a Christmas gift for its employees. This year, it was supposed to be a North Face jacket with an Innovex logo, a company Innovex has ordered gear from in the past.

The company providing the jackets said The North Face doesn’t want to support the oil and gas industry in the same way they’d reject the porn industry or tobacco industry.

“They told us we did not meet their brand standards,” Innovex CEO Anderson said. “We were separately informed that what that really meant is was that we were an oil and gas company.”

[North Face said that it] “thoroughly investigates product requests to ensure they align closely with our goals and commitments surrounding sustainability and environmental protection.”

Take that you disgusting, Global Warming, despoilers of Gaia! Begone from our customer’s ranks! No more will our skiers have to be ashamed at wearing the same clothes as some deplorable oil driller. Virtue and purity hath returned to our world.

Unfortunately for North Face their management turned out to be pretty ignorant about their own products and it didn’t take long for somebody in the fossil fuel industry to strike back – but in an unexpected way:

The Colorado Oil and Gas Association has bestowed its first-ever “Extraordinary Customer Award” on The North Face, saying it appreciates the company for its abundant use of oil and gas.

“To have such a large percent of what they make, probably three-quarters of the mass they ship is actually our product. So, it’s hard to top the all-in nature of The North Face as a consumer of our product,” said Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Oilfield Services.

Fantastic stuff and now a US state government, Louisiana, has made it official with a resolution passed last week, that recognized The North Face as an “extraordinary customer” of “the Louisiana oil and gas petrochemical industries.”

The resolution highlights the “symbiotic relationship between the Louisiana oil and gas and petrochemical industry and The North Face,” commending the clothing company for “utilizing vital oil and gas resources so important to our state.”

“The North Face continues to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, backpacks, duffels, and footwear made with nylon, polyester, and polyurethane, all of which come from petroleum products,” the resolution reads.

Congratulations to The North Face for these well-deserved awards.

In fact I’m so pleased about this that I think I shall go and buy a new ski jacket, and while looking at the products in the store I shall certainly offer voluble and effusive commentary in commending them on their wonderfully high use of fossil fuels.

I’m sure their sales people and customers will also be pleased with my visit.

To each according to his needs

The second part of perhaps the most famous slogan of the Left in that is truly the world view of their philosophy that drives all the greater detail and polices.

Marx made the slogan his own back in the late 19th century during some huge fight with a moderate Left-wing party in Germany that he thought was insufficiently revolutionary.

I thought of this when news came the other day about this woman.

That’s Patrisse Cullors, one of the founders of the Black Lives Matter Burn Loot Murder movement and a genuine Marxist:

“The first thing, I think, is that we actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia (Garza, BLM co-founder) in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super-versed on, sort of, ideological theories. And I think that what we really tried to do is build a movement that could be utilized by many, many black folk.”

To that end she and her comrades have certainly been successful beyond probably even their wildest dreams, having created a movement with real power, both in terms of cultural influence and following from that of course, political influence, since politics follows culture. This may have only shown up moderately in actual voting, but their influence inside the Democrat Party and the Biden Administration is considerable, judging by pronouncements by senior members of both. The BLM movement and their partners in crime, Antifa, serve as the street shock troops of the Democrat Party, just like the old KKK used to.

Culture also influences, and is influenced by, economics and BLM hasn’t doesn’t too badly on that front either, having raised some $90 million in donations in 2020 alone.

What’s happened to that money should be of great interest:

Michael Brown Sr., the father of the man killed by a Ferguson police officer, says he has received just $500 from BLM affiliates. Brown Sr. asked: “Why hasn’t my family’s foundation received any assistance from the movement? How could you leave the families who are helping the community without any funding?”

$500! Awwwww. It’s not really a mystery, Mr Brown. You and your dead son were useful tools for BLM and the Democrat Party, that’s all. Most organisations begin to exist for themselves sooner or later, and the more “revolutionary” they are the faster the transformation. But Ms Cullors has probably pushed further down this path than most of the rest of BLM:

Cullors recently purchased a $1.4 million home in Topanga Canyon, California:

“A winding 15-minute drive from The Commons at Calabasas and a slightly longer and somewhat less serpentine drive from Malibu’s Getty Villa, the pint-sized compound spans about one-quarter of an acre.

The property’s not-quite 2,400 square feet is divided between the … three-bedroom and two-bath main house and a separate one-bed/one-bath apartment”

“Property is Theft”

Nice. Very nice.

Sits on a 1/4 acre section too. In LA. I think that used to be a NZ thing.

As is the neighbourhood: Topanga Canyon, California, has a white population of 88.2% and a Black population of 0.4%, according to the 2010 census.

Not exactly the ‘hood, but then she’s probably quite conservative about crime – when it affects her. Everybody’s conservative about what they know best.

Or perhaps oppression secretly lives there and this is just Ms Cullors’s way of infiltrating some revolutionary thinking into the area. I’m sure her overwhelmingly Democrat-voting neighbours will be gagging to show off their anti-racist credentials at Ms Cullors’s dinner parties (assuming they’re invited).

Or perhaps the invites will depend on the area?

According to public records, this is just one of three homes that Cullors owns in the Los Angeles area.

(Cullors) also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes. … Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent.”

Actually she’s just following in the tradition of other race grifters like Al Sharpton and Louie Farrakhan, but although they have their hypocrisies it’s not as vivid as when a Marxist does it. It also fits well with the wealthy little boys, girls and other children of the privileged revolution who cosplay as Antifa. Cullors is just keeping up. Good for her.

Still, as laughable as it is the hypocrisy of these grifters is hard to take, especially when they’re helped by Big Tech, who have done their best to dump links to the story from Facebook, Twitter and so forth, just as they did to the NY Post when it published the Hunter Biden story. The narrative must be defended.

“You are horrified at our intending to do away with private property. But in your existing society, private property is already done away with for nine-tenths of the population; its existence for the few is solely due to its non-existence in the hands of those nine-tenths. You reproach us, therefore, with intending to do away with a form of property, the necessary condition for whose existence is the non-existence of any property for the immense majority of society.

“In one word, you reproach us with intending to do away with your property. Precisely so: that is just what we intend.”

Sure Karl. But “the few” get that way by knowing how to work the system. And remember:

Nancy Pelosi goes full Fascist

Back in June 2020, as Burn Loot Murder and their Antifa friends laid siege to Washington D.C. with firebombs and fists, Nancy Pelosi was interviewed about the events on NPR’s long-running programme, “All Things Considered” and was asked about whether the National Guard and other military units should be bought in, to which she responded:

“Violence has no place and violence must be addressed….But there is no reason for the U.S. military to be called out for this.”

Washington D.C, blitzed by BLM, June 2020

By contrast, after the events of January 6th, here’s an interview with the Acting DHS Deputy Secretary, Ken Cuccinelli, where he stated that:

…. the last up of thousands of these troops was requested by the Speaker through the Capitol Police. She even wanted crew-manned machine guns in Washington. That was rejected. There’s simply no use for that in a security arrangement for a civilian undertaking. So some of this has gone beyond any legitimate security need.

In any normal, sane world she’d be forced to resign over this, but let’s face it, this is an entirely natural reaction from her and her ilk around the world. And as a Democrat she’s also fully protected by the MSM.

The likes of the National Guard won’t be deployed to protect you from Antifa/BLM – but when she thinks her precious hide is on the line….

“Bitch Set Me Up”

Given what has been discussed in these two recent No Minister articles:

… which covered what happens in Melbourne when you’re the wrong sort of protestor, and…

.. which covered what happens when you’re the Left sort of politician (Incidentally I didn’t know that California Governor Newsom is Nancy’s nephew. Figures: that means there will be no prosecution because of course)…

… I thought the following might be appropriate additions to the debate.

First up is Andrew Grannie Killer Cuomo..

Jesus! You’d think he’d have got the message back in June about what the rules are. The real rules that is.

And of course when a giant dies…

And those folk didn’t get the quarantine treatment when they went back to Washington D.C., despite its “strict” measures because reasons – and shut up.

Rules are for the LITTLE people.

Incidentally I see that another grandma, Nancy Pelosi, is now going for the Mayor Marion Barry defence, otherwise known as “The Bitch Set me up”:

I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that I’ve been to…many times. It was a set up, and I take responsibility for falling for a setup.”

Wait! What? She “takes responsibility” for somebody else being to blame in this? Classic stuff. And she’s going to double down on this shit.

“I think that this salon owes me an apology, for setting me up”

And naturally the online gangs have started up…

Yeah Erica. Don’t you know there’s an election to win this year against BadOrangeMan? We can’t have plebs sliming the most powerful Democrat in America and by extension her Party and Nephew who have locked down California for months. That would be electorally damaging.

Enemy of the People! Straight up. Nancy I mean. Not Erica.

And the cherry on top is that being from that part of California I’d bet Erica has voted a straight Democrat ticket every election for years. Wonder if she’s learning anything from all this?

Dream on White girl, Dream on White Boy

One of the things noticed about many of the BLM protests in the USA over the last few months was the degree to which they seemed dominated by White People, and in particular youngish White Woman.

To that end I present two little videos for comment.

First up is this White Chick who is right there in the BLM trenches confronting the cops. Black cops that is.

“Racism is a White Person’s problem. Racism is my problem. I need to fix this. That’s why I’m here”

You go girl. Nothing says that you’re fixing your racism by yelling at other people, especially Black cops. I note that the two cops concerned do the perfect Buckingham Palace Guard act in the face of her lightweight shite! Although I swear I saw one of them shaking his head slightly.

And then there’s this White Boy getting Blacksplained by one Shemeka Michelle:

“I don’t need you to tell me my life matters. I don’t need your privilege to tell me or to justify who I am in America. This is my country. This is my land. My ancestors built this country, so I’m gonna walk around here as bold as I want to.”

Woah! Way to fuck up The BLM Narrative lady. In fact Blacks like her are very dangerous to it, and it’s one of the few things that actually do matter to BLM. That also why the MSM prefers that videos like these don’t make the rounds and that people like Michelle stay silent in the shadows.

Given the low quality of American university and high school education now it’s very rare for these kids to be exposed to a different set of beliefs. Hearing Michelle talk may have been the first time they’ve ever seen anyone with a black skin colour giving them a strong dose of reality.

This man WILL never be listened to again

My PhotoBack on April 18, I wrote about the British epidemiological “expert”, Neil Ferguson, whose hopeless chicken entrails computer model, had led the British Government a pretty dance on dealing with the Wuhan Flu.

The article pointed out that his models had provided similarly catastrophic predictions of death and destruction over the past twenty years with things like CJD (Mad Cow) disease, Foot and Mouth, Bird Flu, and Swine Flu,

Based on all that, I made the point that:

Well it now turns out that this guy, the “gold standard” of disease modeling, according to the New York Times and Washington Post, never actually followed the rules he lectured everybody else about following:

On Tuesday night, we discovered that the furrowed-browed scientist, who has been at the Prime Minister’s side throughout this crisis, is in fact Austin Powers in a lab coat. He’s been having an affair with a 38-year-old married woman who travels regularly across the capital from her home in south London to spend time with him.

He’s resigned now, and with any luck will never be heard from again.

Now I have to admit that the lass making the booty calls – pictured here with Ferguson –  probably is worth breaking a few rules for, and were it anybody else NOT in a position of authority I’d probably be cheering the couple on as they gave the fingers to the Police State.

But of course that’s not who he was. As the article points out, this was Professor Lockdown, the guy telling 66 million Britons they must remain in their homes to protect the NHS and save lives (sob).

I also liked this quote:

Why is it that the most zealous advocates for reining in human behavior, whether it’s in Prohibition-era America or the midst of a public health crisis, always get caught with their pants down? I’m reminded of something the late Christopher Hitchens said:

‘Whenever I hear some bigmouth in Washington or the Christian heartland banging on about the evils of sodomy or whatever, I mentally enter his name in my notebook and contentedly set my watch. Sooner rather than later, he will be discovered down on his weary and well-worn old knees in some dreary motel or latrine, with an expired Visa card, having tried to pay well over the odds to be peed upon by some Apache transvestite.’

But like the writer I’m less concerned about the pathetic double standards than about what this actually means about our society – and who rules us:

It deserves the frontpage treatment it is getting today. For Ferguson’s booty call with his married lover actually reveals a great deal about the 21st-century elites and how they view their relationship with the masses. It’s one rule for them and another for us. They can carry on enjoying sneaky freedoms because their lives and jobs are important; we can’t because we are mere little people, whose silly work lives can casually be disrupted, whose love lives can be turned upside down, and whose families can be ripped apart. The Ferguson affair provides an illuminating insight into the new elitism.

And this regarding “experts”:

The Gospel of Ferguson is really a story of the confused relationship between politicians and experts today. Instead of our elected leaders deciding what is best for the political, economic and social health of the nation, and then employing experts to ensure this vision becomes a reality, we have politicians who bow too cravenly to experts and outsource political authority to them. And so, as some commentators have pointed out, Britain currently feels like it is being run by scientists. That’s bad for politics, which becomes less democratic the more that unelected scientific experts get to make the major decisions, and it’s bad for science, which risks becoming politicised under this pressure to guide the nation. Ferguson bought into the political use of his work. He backed the lockdown. Ferociously.

Fuck them. And the horse they rode into town on.

#MeToo Movement Achieves Room Temperature

My Photo

#MeToo passed away in early April 2020, at the age of 14, after a long fight with multiple diseases including hypocrisy, double standards and mediocrity, which had plagued MeToo since birth.

Born in the USA in 2006, and in spite of suffering ongoing recurrences of the diseases, #MeToo quickly developed into a powerful weapon for damaging and even destroying Right-wing people in the USA.

As recently as 2018, #MeToo appeared to be recovering and even gaining strength with heavy, round-the-clock doses of the new Christine Blasey-Ford treatment, which also included copious amounts of virtue signalling, colourful, ritual dances and loud ululations displaying the moral and ethical superiority of the carers.

Sadly however, despite being carefully watched and nursed, #MeToo appears to have been infected by the new Tara Reade virus, after which the patient declined rapidly.

However, while Democrats and other Left-wingers were largely ignored by #MeToo in the beginning, increasingly prominent members were being targeted and stories have begun circulating that MeToo’s death may have also been the result of interventions by multiple euthanasia practitioners, including:

Byyyeeee Woody!

The Democrat Party;

Senior Democrat Politicians;

Feminist activists, particularly in the Media and Hollywood industries;

and the MSM;

Joe Biden did 19 interviews spanning nearly 4 hours in the 5 weeks since March 24, the day a former staffer in his U.S. Senate office came forward to accuse him of sexual assault. None of the 142 questions asked by his interviewers have been on the allegations by Tara Reade.

Investigators into #MeToo’s death believe that there may be a connection between all of these #MeToo carers and Joey “Fingers” Biden. When finally asked about this from his home in Connecticut via Zoom, Biden responded by saying:

We need to be talking about the 600,000 Americans who’ve been killed by the Wuhan Flu and the 150 million killed by guns. And I’m gonna push that conversation by getting on TV and talking about this crisis just like good ole’ President FDR did in 1929. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate and I’m focused on getting out the votes here in Iowa on Super Thursday by getting on TV to talk about how, for a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real, whether or not she forgets the facts. I mean we hold these truths to be self-evident and all men and women created by – uhhh – you know – you know – uhhhh – the thing and. … uhh… and …. us….and… uhhh…. and… I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts,….

The interview ended when Biden wandered off-screen and the feed was cut.

Biden has vowed to fight the accusations by selecting a women to be his VP, and to find that woman he has picked his old Senate friend Chris Dodd to head up the search team. Dodd and famous Senator, Ted Kennedy, were friends and their high-spirited, fun-filled times with young woman in Washington D.C led them to be celebrated in Democrat circles as the “Waitress Sandwich Brothers“.

#MeToo’s mother, NOW, could not be reached for comment on this, but was last reported sobbing in her hospice, having never recovered from an encounter with a Presidential cigar in the late 1990’s.

Selling the rope to your hangman

There are a number of variations on this theme, all attributed to either Lenin, Stalin or Khruschev – and it’s almost certainly apocryphal. Still, they all expressed ideas along these lines, and I’d bet that Khruschev in particular, with his puckish sense of humour, may have wished he’d said something like it:

When the time comes to hang the capitalists they will sell us the rope we use.

I thought of this quote the other day as I read an article about where Bernie has been getting his money from. He has famously boasted that he is not supported by corporations but by individuals – and not much via Superpac’s either:

Super PACs, officially known as “independent expenditure-only political action committees,” may engage in unlimited political spending (on, for example, ads) independently of the campaigns, but are not allowed to either coordinate or make contributions to candidate campaigns or party coffers. Unlike traditional PACs, Super PACs can raise funds from individuals, corporations, unions, and other groups without any legal limit on donation size.

And he appears to be telling the truth, judging by the data from the US Federal Election Commission website on the fundraising and expenditure of the various campaigns. You can download the data if you wish to go totally geek.
He raised $25 million in January alone and has spent more than $50 million to date on his campaign, beating Biden in both categories.
That will almost certainly decline now as it becomes more obvious that the bulk of the Democrat Party is not going to allow him to win the primaries and get the nomination.
Still, what got me was the sort of “ordinary” people this data tells us are supporting Bernie:

Geographically, Bernie’s top dollar zip code is 94110 in San Francisco. The average household income in this part of the Mission District, specifically the Inner Mission, the Bernal Heights area, is $166,302. The median home value is around $1.5 million and the median rent is almost $5,000 a month.

That should not be a surprise given that it’s the employees of Google, Amazon, and Microsoft who make up three out of the top 4 Bernie donors-by-employer, with Apple employees in fifth place. A typical senior engineer at Google makes $US 250,000 per year – before stock options.
But it’s the same story on the other coast where the talk has been of the support Bernie gets from his old Brooklyn neighbourhood; working class and all that. Nope:

[Zip code] 11215 or Park Slope is the second biggest top dollar zip code of Bernie donors. The neighborhood, formerly urban, known as the home of Mayor Bill de Blasio, and the Park Slope Food Co-Op…. [is] filled with renovated brownstones filled with wealthy hipsters. It’s a place where a three-bedroom apartment can go for $2.9 million.

And so on down the list. It’s quite a joke considering the Class Warfare that Bernie constantly preaches. This is not the top 1%, they’re the top 0.001%! Why are these wealthy young people supporting a guy who condemns people like them?
A bottle of your best micro-brew! And be quick about it.
Perhaps it’s guilt? While the tech engineers of Silicon Valley work brutal hours for their high incomes that’s not true of the urban hipsters of Park Slope or Chicago’s Logan Square (#8 on Bernie’s list).
Such places have gentrified rapidly in the last twenty years, with renovated houses and apartments and filled with all the usual stuff of micro-brew pubs, delis and “farmers markets”. The jokes about Trust Fund babies made by other inhabitants of those cities have a sting to them.
Perhaps like the old elites of the European Middle Ages with the Catholic Church they’re simply buying indulgences, paying off their sins both past and future, as we see with Warmists flying private jets.
But I think it’s more that they just don’t think any of the Socialist stuff will hurt them. Their wealth, particularly for those who have inherited it, has made them unthinking about how it is created, how it can be so easily destroyed, and how the free enterprise system can be so screwed up that nobody can ever become wealthy. And when you look at the stupidities of supposedly educated people when it comes to money in the realm of millions and billions (“I was told there would be no Math“) you can see how the problem compounds.
They believe in Free Stuff because they’ve been the beneficiaries of free stuff all their useless lives. They think that’s how society can work.
There’s Class Warfare all right – and it’s being waged on the working classes and the poor by Bernie’s people. It starts with wealthy young white people in major urban areas who have made places like Logan Square, Prospect Heights and Echo Park so expensive that working and middle-class people have been forced out. But it ends when the same people support the wholesale destruction of industries – like fracking – that enable working class people to have good, even large wages that allow them to buy houses and cars and have families.

In all this they’re perfect matches for the likes of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Mao, Che, Castro, Pol Pot and a host of other communist leaders and activists who in no way came from The Toiling Masses but from wealthy or at least comfortable backgrounds of inherited wealth and good education.

Carlos Mazza
And here’s the latest example, Carlos Mazza.
Isn’t he just such a perfect match for the generic hipster whose photo I included earlier?
Mr Mazza is a fearsome Far Lefter, judging by his Twitter account description:

“Marxist pig. Liberal fascist. Queer scum. He/Him. YouTube profits off of hate speech. IG: gaywonk.”

Wow! Impressive. He apparently has a couple of hundred thousand followers on Twitter so naturally I’d never heard of him before yesterday.
His particular speciality was ripping other Lefties who claimed to speak for the common folk while being as rich as shit themselves. Starting with a recent Bernie Foe, former Bill Clinton advisor and solid Democrat James Carville:

Now given the thrust of this OP I’m somewhat on board with this message. There’s just one problem and it was uncovered by a reporter from – yes – the New York Post. It turns out that this is where Mr Mazza lives:

Carlos’s bachelor pad

Public records show Vivian, Scott, Carlos and sister Isabel all registered to vote at a five-bedroom, eight-bathroom waterfront palace in Boca Raton, Florida. The property sold in 2018 for $10.8 million

Well it’s one of the places where he lives. Turns out that they also own a $7 million condominium on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. They also own a yacht by luxury maker boat-maker Donzi.

All of this due to his Mummy and StepDaddy having created a software firm in Florida that now employs about 5000 people. They are worth hundreds of millions of dollars at a minimum and apparently support their sons “lifestyle”. If this prick ever does do a hard week’s work – especially physical work – in his pathetic life, he’ll probably drop dead of exhaustion on the Friday.

Incidently, the reporter who dug all this up, Jonathan Levine, was punished by being locked out of his Twitter account. Exposing socialist hypocrisy is contrary to Twitter’s guidelines which, given its membership, is not surprising.

It also turns out that Mr Mazza solicits donations of $2 per month to $10 per month from “comrades”, using sites like Patreon.

I’d suggest he sell them rope instead. The “comrades” will know what to do with it.

Politics vs. Commerce – Russia edition

One of the most extraordinarly stupid comments on Russia that you run into on a regular basis is the claim that there is a separation between politics and commerce in Putin’s state.

It has been obvious for over a decade now that there is no difference or separation between the two.

Going back to the immediate post GFC world, in 2010 Putin unloaded on the oligarchs of Russia and their failure to insulate the Russian people from the GFC.

It was obvious that firms – and their billionaire owners – were now as much targets as any group in the days of the USSR:

The financial crisis of 2008-2009 was one of the last gasps of the oligarchs (as we knew them), with the state commandeering their wealth to help the state. Some of the oligarchs gave money directly to the state. Others were coached on how to invest their funds in failing sectors or in the stock market. Oligarchs like Oleg Deripaska, Alexei Mordoshov or Mikhail Fridman saw their worth of roughly $20-30 billion fall to just a few billion within a span of a few months.

It became obvious that to remain a billionaire oligarch one would have to toady to Putin, and the lists of those who did and did not, rapidly became the easiest way of figuring out out how was going to remain flithy rich and who would be reduced to penury – and perhaps prison. The extent of this was listed by the US in 2018 as The Putin List.

That Russia is corrupt is hardly a surprise.

The post Soviet collapse saw the USA and NATO simply shrug their shoulders throughout the 1990’s in an orgy of faith in neo-liberal economics, idly watching as former Communist Party apparatchiks levered their intimate knowledge of Soviet industries into privatised billions that trashed not just jobs but the connected aspects of education, housing and healthcare – all of which had often been directly linked to the local industry.

For all of his bravery in 1991/92 Boris Yeltsin simply did not have the knowledge to stop all of this. Given his Communist education and upbringing he may even have assumed that this was how free markets and free enterprise worked.

It was therefore not much of a surprise that around 1999/2000, Russia reached back into its past to find a new czar: a man with smarts and ruthlessness who would once again impose the power of Russia’s traditional central state apparat.

And as Putin gained power in the 2000’s there was no doubt that he was headed for a clash with the billionaire oligarchs. But given that Communism was discredited, along with the NKVD and Lubyanka, Putin would not be able to simply crush all of them. The trick was to crush some and co-opt others. And in the process Putin has made himself wealthy too.

“We’ve seen him enriching his friends, his close allies and marginalizing those who he doesn’t view as friends using state assets. Whether that’s Russia’s energy wealth, whether it’s other state contracts, he directs those to whom he believes will serve him and excludes those who don’t. To me, that is a picture of corruption,”

But it’s a mistake to see this as simple corruption, as if Putin is like some moronic dictator of the Developing World. Putin is doing all this to make sure he is plugged into a network of power and wealth that he can use to further the cause of Great Russia, the Motherland of Europe. His driver is the recovery of lost glory, not mere wealth.

Still, the real question is why the EU – especially the Germans who know all this – would be stupid enough to further strengthen their teathers to Russia?

This map shows the path of Nord Stream 2, an $11 billion project to build a second pipeline that will double the systems capacity, carrying 110 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Eastern Russia to Northern Germany.

The Bush II administration opposed the original Nordstream I, while the Obama adminstration opposed Nordstream 2. Trump merely follows in their footsteps, and it’s no surprise why.

Germany is heavily reliant on Russia for natural gas. Russia provided between 50 percent and 75 percent of Germany’s gas imports in 2017, according to Eurostat, the European Commission’s statistics arm. Germany turned to Russia for roughly half of its oil imports last year.

Where Germany goes, so goes the EU, which is why objections to this dependency from other EU and NATO members, such as Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, have simply been ignored by the EU technocrats.

Why it’s almost as if all the invective they aim at Trump, Putin and Russia is just hypocritical garbage.
