In contrast to the previous post, one of the most heartening headlines and stories seen by me recently:
- Watch: Flames burst from Virgin Airlines plane over Queenstown, forced to make emergency landing in Invercargill
Watch: ‘Horrifying’ – video from inside plane shows flight drama over Queenstown
You get to watch the video and hear the stories – from those inside.
Well done that pilot! Well done that airplane manufacturer!
Bit of a routine event, bird possibly injested, turbine or compressor blade parted company.
The plane will climb and fly on one engine.
Engines are not made by the same company as the air-frame manufacturer. Virgin Oz runs a variety of 737, either 800’s or Max., in other words Boeing.
The engine manufacturer is CFM , a joint venture between GE and Safran.
Shutting the engine down would have eliminated the intermittent flaming out the back.
There was no fire, but still a good bit of exceitment, and there may have been some loud bangs to go along with it.
Still with enough height and a double engine failure they have have been able to glide to Invercargill, otherwise the flat paddocks of Southland would have been the next best bet.
